기도

 

                       나태주

 

 

내가 외로운 사람이라면

나보다 더 외로운 사람을

생각하게 하여 주옵소서

 

내가 추운 사람이라면

나보다 더 추운 사람을

생각하게 하여 주옵소서

 

내가 가난한 사람이라면

나보다 더 가난한 사람을

생각하게 하여 주옵소서

더욱이나 내가 비천한 사람이라면

나보다 더 비천한 사람을

생각하게 하여 주옵소서

 

그리하여 때때로

스스로 묻고

스스로 대답하게 하여 주옵소서

 

나는 지금 어디에 와 있는가?

나는 지금 어디로 향해 가고 있는가?

나는 지금 무엇을 보고 있는가?

나는 지금 무엇을 꿈꾸고 있는가?

If I am a lonely soul,
grant that I may think of those
who are even lonelier than I.

If I am a cold soul,
grant that I may think of those
who are even colder than I.

If I am a poor soul,
grant that I may think of those
who are even poorer than I.
And especially if I am a humble soul,
grant that I may think of those
who are even humbler than I.

And so, from time to time,
grant that I may ask myself
and answer myself:

Where am I standing now?
Where am I heading now?
What am I looking at now?
What am I dreaming of now?
