물고기에게 배우다

 

                             맹문재

 

 

개울가에서 아픈 몸 데리고 있다가

무심히 보는 물속

살아온 울타리에 익숙한지

물고기들은 돌덩이에 부딪히는 불상사 한번 없이

제 길을 간다

멈춰 서서 구경도 하고

눈치 보지 않고 입 벌려 배를 채우기도 하고

유유히 간다

길은 어디에도 없는데

쉬지 않고 길을 내고

낸 길은 또 미련을 두지 않고 지운다

즐기면서 길을 내고 낸 길을 버리는 물고기들에게

나는 배운다

약한 자의 발자국을 믿는다면서

슬픈 그림자를 자꾸 눕히지 않는가

물고기들이 무수히 지나갔지만

발자국 하나 남지 않은 저 무한한 광장에

나는 들어선다

Learning from the Fish

While tending my aching body by the stream,

I casually look into the water.

Perhaps accustomed to the enclosure of their lives,

the fish go their own way without a single mishap of bumping into rocks.

They stop to sightsee,

open their mouths to fill their bellies without reading anyone's eyes,

and flow leisurely.

Though there is no path anywhere,

they ceaselessly carve out a path,

and erase the path they made without a shred of attachment.

From the fish that enjoy making paths and discard the paths they make,

I learn.

While claiming to believe in the footprints of the weak,

do I not continually lay down my sad shadows?

Though countless fish have passed by,

into that infinite square where not a single footprint remains,

I step.
