바닷가에 대하여

누구나 바닷가 하나씩은 자기만의 바닷가가 있는 게 좋다

누구나 바닷가 하나씩은 언제나 찾아갈 수 있는

자기만의 바닷가가 있는 게 좋다

잠자는 지구의 고요한 숨소리를 듣고 싶을 때

지구 위를 걸어가는 새들의 작은 발소리를 듣고 싶을 때

새들과 함께 수평선 위로 걸어가고 싶을 때

친구를 위해 내 목숨을 버리지 못했을 때

서럽게 우는 어머니를 껴안고 함께 울었을 때

모내기가 끝난 무논의 저수지 둑 위에서

자살한 어머니의 고무신 한 짝을 발견했을 때

바다에 뜬 보름달을 향해 촛불을 켜놓고 하염없이

두 손 모아 절을 하고 싶을 때

바닷가 기슭으로만 기슭으로만 끝없이 달려가고 싶을 때

누구나 자기만의 바닷가가 하나씩 있으면 좋겠다

자기만의 바닷가로 달려가 쓰러지는 게 좋다

one that they can always go to.

When you want to listen to the quiet breathing of the sleeping earth,

when you want to listen to the small footsteps of the birds walking across the globe,

when you want to walk over the horizon with those birds,

when you could not sacrifice your life for a friend,

when you held your sorrowfully weeping mother and cried with her,

when you discovered one of your mother's rubber shoes

on the dike of the reservoir by a paddy field after the rice planting was done,

when you want to light a candle toward the full moon over the sea

and endlessly bow down with your hands clasped together,

when you want to run endlessly, endlessly, toward the edge of the seashore,

It would be good for everyone to have a seashore of their own, one each.

It is good to run to your own seashore and just collapse.
