반드시 돌아온다

 

                               박노해

 

 

지구가 태양을 돌아 나오듯

계절은 새롭게 돌아 나오고

과거는 다르게 돌아 나온다

 

성찰하고 감당하지 않은 것들은

청산하고 정리하지 않은 것들은

시간이 흐른다고 그냥 사라지지 않는다

 

잠시 망각되고 유보될 뿐

반드시 내 앞으로 돌아 나온다

이자까지 얹힌 청구서를 들고서

 

인생에서도 역사에서도

일어날 일은 반드시

일어나게 되어있다

 

갚지 않고 넘어온 것들은

성찰 없이 건너뛴 것들은

청산 없이 지나온 것들은

Just as the earth revolves around the sun and returns,

the seasons return anew, and the past returns differently.

 

Those things we have not reflected upon and borne,

those things we have not settled and resolved,

do not simply disappear as time passes.

 

They are only momentarily forgotten and postponed,

but will surely return before us,

holding a bill with interest added on.

 

In life and in history,

what is meant to happen is bound to happen.

 

Those things we passed over without paying,

those things we jumped across without reflection,

those things we passed by without settlement
