열정 없는 시간 속에

 

                                  김정원

 

 

저 하늘에 무늬구름 몇 조각

그려지지 않았다면

내 눈은 허수아비 되어 허공을 파헤쳤을 거요

 

밤하늘에 별들이

저리 소근대지 않았더면

기도를 모르는 세상을 불태웠을 거요

 

산에 들에 나무들 모든 풀들

꽃을 피우지 않았더면

열정 없는 시간 속에 허우적거렸을 거요

 

늦여름 매미소리

요란히 울지 않았더면

풋사랑도 그렇게 아프진 않았을 거요

 

강물이

저리 유유히 흘러가지 않았더면

내 마음 어디메 누울 곳 없었을 거요

Amidst Times Without Passion

If a few patterned clouds had not been drawn across that sky yonder,

my eyes would have turned into a scarecrow,

digging into the empty air.

 

If the stars in the night sky had not whispered to one another like that,

I would have set ablaze a world

that knows nothing of prayer.

 

If the trees and every blade of grass across the mountains and fields had not blossomed into flowers,

I would have floundered amidst times devoid of passion.

 

If the late-summer cicadas had not cried out so noisily,

young love wouldn't have ached quite so much.

 

If the river had not flowed by so leisurely,

there would have been nowhere

for my heart to lie down and rest.
