눈이 오지 않는 나라

 

                                   노향림

 

 

아직 

눈이 오지 않는 나라

이쪽에는

침엽수들이 언 손을 들고

쩔쩔맸다

 

창문이 덜컹댔다

열어놓은 꿈속으로

눈이 들이치고

사람들은 스스로 녹았다

 

저마다 가슴 안에 감추어 둔

뜨거운 속말을

스스로 녹은 언어를 흘리며

사람들은 깊은 잠 들었다

 

잠 속에는

머리와 머리를 맞댄 눈들이

몰려 있다

 

내일 혹은

그 다음날 새벽에 내릴

첫눈을 위하여

A Country where snow has not yet come

 

                                                                     Noh Hyang-rim

 

 

In the country where snow has not yet come,

on this side,

the conifers held up frozen hands and struggled.

 

The windows rattled.

Into the dreams left open,

snow came drifting in and the people melted of their own accord.

 

Each person, secreting away the burning inner words within their hearts,

spilling their own melted language, fell into a deep sleep.

 

Within that sleep,

snowflakes huddle together, head to head.

 

For the first snow

that will fall tomorrow, or perhaps at the dawn of the day after.
