유리창이 있는 벽

유리는 투명하다

무엇이든 다 허락할 것 같다

 

거리낌 없이 다 보여 줘도 결국 벽이라고

속지처럼 끼워져 있는 유리창

 

호호 입김을 불어 닦은 데 또 닦아도

자꾸 흐려지는 일들

얼룩이 남는 그런 일들은

아마도 라고 말할 수밖에 없는 일들

 

버선목처럼 속을 뒤집어 보이거나

입을 아, 하고 벌려도

코 박고 이마를 찧을 수밖에 없는

 

유리는 투명하고

유리는 무엇이든 다 허락할 것 같은데

 

누구나

벽이 있고

벽마다 창은 하나씩 있고

창마다 자주 흐려지는 유리가 끼워져 있어

한 번씩 소리나게 드르륵 열어 보고 싶어진다

A Wall with a Glass Window

Glass is transparent.

It seems to permit everything.

 

Though it shows everything without hesitation, it is ultimately a wall—

A glass window inserted like an interleaf.

 

Even if you wipe where you breathed a fog onto it, and wipe again,

Things that keep blurring,

Those things that leave stains,

Are matters that can only be described as "perhaps."

 

Even if you turn yourself inside out like the top of a sock,

Or open your mouth wide saying "ah,"

You can only end up bumping your nose and forehead.

 

Glass is transparent,

And it seems to permit everything, but...

 

Everyone

Has a wall,

And every wall has a single window,

And in every window, a glass that often fogs up is set,

Making one want to slide it open with a loud drrrr-rk.
