마음세탁소

홍제동 산 1번지
미로의 골목길 들어가면
할아버지 한 분이
시간이 고요히 가라앉은 듯한
낡은 재봉틀 의자에 앉아
손님이 맡기고 간 물건을
부지런히 뜯어 고치고 있다.

지친 마음 잠깐 벗어주면
구겨지거나 헤진 곳을
하루만에 깨끗이 처리해 준다고
방금 산 새옷처럼
흠 하나 없이 만들어서
삯도 받지 않고
당신에게 건네준다는 세탁소다.

간판도 떨어져나가고
바람 조금 불어도 덜컹거리는
문짝의 세탁소 안에서
휴일도 없이 새벽부터 한밤중까지
가슴에 고랑을 판 사람들
세월에 홧병 든 사람들의
한을 다리고 설움을 깁고 있다.

홍제동 인왕산 자락에
잠깐 놀러 왔다가
그냥 눌러 앉고 말았다는
무학을 닮은 노인네가
세탁소 열어놓은 것이
몇 백 년 되었는지 모르겠다고
옷걸이에 수북하게 걸려있는
인생들을 오늘도 수선하고 있다.

Heart Laundry

When you enter the maze of alleywayson Hongjedong Mountain No. 1,
an old man sits on an old sewing machine chair that seems to have
been frozen in time, diligently picking apart and mending items left by customers
.

It's a laundromat that promises to take your
wrinkles and tears
and make them clean in a day,
like a brand new outfit you just bought,
spotless,
and hand it to you
without charging you a cent.

The signboard is falling off,
rattling with the slightest breeze,
and inside the laundry at the door,
from dawn to midnight without a day off,
people with furrows in their chests,
people who have been sick for years,
with their hands and feet.

At the foot of Inwangsan Mountain in Hongjedong, an old man who
came to play for a while and
just sat down,
resembling a martial artist,
who doesn't know how many hundreds of years it has been
since the laundry was opened,
is still mending
lives hanging on the hangers.
