담쟁이

 

                     윤재철

 

 

앞으로 갈 수 없는 길은

기어오르는 것인가

벽이면 담이면 달라붙어

드디어는 넘어서는 것인가

 

교육원 붉은 벽돌담에 달라붙어

뻗쳐올라간 너를 보면

우리들의 사랑은 노래가 아니라

달라붙는 것임을

달라붙어 소리없이 넘어서는 것임을 알았다

 

그리하여 벽은 더 큰 사랑이 되고

더 큰 절망이 되고

절망은 뿌리박고 살며

뿌리박고 넘어서는 일임을 알았다

 

부정이 긍정이 되고

다시 긍정이 부정이 되는

소리없는 싸움과 삶의 논리를

너는 뿌리 같은 네 몸으로 엮어

보이지 않는 작은 균열로부터

보이지 않는 작은 뿌리를 심으며

오늘 너는 소문없이 기어오르고 있다.

If a path cannot be walked forward,

is one meant to climb?

If there is a wall, if there is a fence, do I cling to it,

and finally overcome it?

 

Watching you cling to the red brick wall of the training center,

stretching and climbing upward,

I realized that our love is not a song,

but a clinging—

a silent clinging that overcomes.

 

Thus, the wall becomes a greater love,

and a greater despair;

I learned that despair is about taking root and living,

and taking root to overcome.

 

Through the logic of life and the silent struggle

where negation becomes affirmation,

and affirmation becomes negation again,

you weave with your body like roots,

planting invisible little roots

into invisible little cracks—

today, you are climbing, without a word.
