새를 날려보내고

 

                            정한용

 

 

먼지와 진흙의 세상으로

새장의 새를 꺼내 날려보낸다

오랜 세월 날개를 잃었는데도 오늘

푸르름 향해 날아가는 게 대견하다

얼마나 오랜 동안

우리 집의 벌레들은 공포에 떨어야 했을까

긴 밤 지새우며 가슴 한가득

모랫바람 채워야 했을까

어디 벌레뿐이랴

풀과 강아지, 밥과 책, 꿈과 현실

팽팽히 부푼 하늘로 그들의 의지로

모두 새처럼 날아오르길

얼룩진 땅을 지나

가벼운 그림자 속으로

Sending the Bird Away

Into the world of dust and mud,

I take the bird out of its cage and send it flying.

Even though it lost its wings for a long time, today

it is admirable to see it fly toward the azure.

For how long

must the insects in my house have trembled in fear?

Staying up through the long nights,

must they have filled their hearts full of sandstorms?

Not just the insects—

grass and puppy, rice and book, dream and reality,

to the tightly swollen sky, by their own will,

I hope they all soar like birds,

passing the stained earth,

into the light shadow.
